I thought I'd post this here for anyone else who might be curious. I
received inquiries from Jerry Converse and Patrick Sullivan regarding the
Bewick's Wren that Nancy Taylor and I picked up in Okanogan County. Quite
frankly, the significance of this find escaped us until Jerry and Patrick
pointed it out. This may be because we see them so frequently here on the
west side (oh, just another Bewick's). After consultation with Nancy, it
appears that I may have misspoke on the location, however. In my original
post I included it with the other wrens we saw and directly implied we had
seen it in the Chopaka area. To the best of our recollection, we saw one and
perhaps two Bewick's Wrens calling to each other in the immediate vicinity
of Cameron Lake. I think it's where the Cameron Lk. Loop Rd. intersects at
the Wakefield-Cameron Lk. Rd. Mind you, the species were coming hot and
heavy up there, and we were more excited and distracted by a freshly fledged
congregation of Pygmy Nuthatches moving through the pines. But we do feel
confident about the Bewick's. Although I think of myself as more of a
habitat birder than list ticker, I am resolved to be more thorough about
record keeping in the future. Thanks to Jerry and Patrick for giving me a
wake-up!
