Some time ago, perhaps as long as a year, someone wrote in asking what the
3 note call was in his/her local woods in western Washington. At the time,
I knew exactly the call that was being asked about, except that I too did
not know the ID. The 2 or 3 guesses that appeared on tweeters didn't
satisfy me at the time, but I didn't have any better guesses.
A couple days ago I tracked down that call. It is 3 evenly spaced medium
pitched short notes, lasting a second or so, and repeated about every 10
seconds. It was coming from a Spotted Towhee.

This morning I was witness to that morning swallow song at 4 AM, and now
the Swainson's Thrushes are singing outside my office window, starting at
about 4:30.
