Later this summer I will be taking a trip back to my dad's house where I grew
up in Michigan, along the Chippewa River. One of the things I most look
forward to is canoeing down the river...always an incredible variety of
songbirds, ducks, ospreys, turtles, etc.

For years, I have heard a very distinctive, loud bird call echoing through
the woods along the river, but have never been able to identify it. It's a
sliding 3-note whistle, sounding like the whistle some one would use to get
someone's attention or call their dog: something like this:

The last couple of years I haven't heard it at all, but will be listening
hard again and would sure like to know what I might be looking for! Any
ideas?
