Columbia Estuary Report - 7/11/1999

The FRANKLIN'S GULL reported on Thursday was not relocated on
subsequent attempts.

Shorebirds movements are at nominal levels. 3 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS
were at Wireless Rd. on Thursday. A molting adult SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER
was with WESTERN and LEAST SANDPIPERS on Saturday at the back ponds SJCR.

A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE and several SOOTY SHEARWATERS were seen during
seawatch on Saturday. There is still a pretty good raft of COMMON MURRES
foraging in the ocean.

In reproductive news, Todd Thornton reports a pair of MOURNING DOVES
on Coxcomb Hill (home of the Astor Column). HERMIT WARBLERS have been
found at Shively Park and along the path to the cathedral tree in Astoria.
Hermit Warblers inside the city limits is a new thing.
