Tweeters,
I took a Seattle Audubon trip out to Spencer on Saturday. We probably should
have started earlier than 8 am as it was extremely hot and the birds were
pretty quiet. We did see 2 Common Nighthawks which was a treat and
certainly not expected. Ruddy Duck and some Lesser Scaup were still hanging
out on the sewage ponds but that was about it for the ducks. Lots of Willow
Flycatchers, Cedar Waxwings and Yellow Warblers. The tide was low so we did
get to see Lesser Yellowlegs and Western Sandpiper in the mud flats south of
the cross dike. Common Yellowthroat and of course Marsh Wren were abundant.
We saw one Osprey fishing in the river, one Northern Harrier and a couple
Red Tails. 41 species. Not too bad for a hot Saturday.
