Last month, I described a sparrow I saw at Spencer Island that had mystified
me. Many suggestions were made but nothing fit. Then a few days ago I'm
looking through the bird image gallery on tweeters and there it was staring
back at me from a picture by, I believe, Ruth Sullivan. It was a
clay-colored sparrow. I never imagined seeing one there so I never even
looked at it in my field guide but the picture was unmistakeably the same
bird I saw. Mystery ended.
