Hi tweets,

and I was just to ask anotehr question on bears -
anybody out there who has a better background to judge the following book?
I came across 'Bear Attacks: The Deadly Truth" yesterday at the UBC book
store. Author is James G.Shelton, long-time resident of the Northern BC
coast. Anyways, I was wondering at first whether it was a second edition
of Stephen's Herrero's now famous Bear Attacks (1988), but it is not; even
as title and cover page are almost plagiarized from Herrero, I couldn't
find more than a passing mentioning of him, and no literature list. When
it mentioned a virtual conspiracy to keep the public from knowing the
real, higher, number of bears in BC, I was inclined to put it down as a
redneck's book for the alien abduction section. However, I found it very
interesting once I browsed further through the book. For example, it
introduced the idea of opportunistic predatory Grizzly attacks, so playing
dead while laying in a tent and being sniffed by a bear might be the wrong
answer.
BTW, it makes also a strong point in favour of bear spray.

Comments?
