Today I spent a little time on Spencer Island. I stopped off at the
Snohomish River before reaching the Island and watched a female Belted
Kingfisher coming and going from a hole in the river bank. I also
watched young Northern Rough-winged Swallows lined up on a branch as
their adults took turns feeding them.
They are finally repairing the crossdike on Spencer and so I had to
avoid the Southern end. Instead I took a short walk North. I only had
a couple of hours to spend and so I walked a short way up the trail and
then turned and walked back. My list today includes:

Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Green Heron
Mallard
Canada Geese
Osprey (circling lazily overhead)
Bald Eagle (immature)
Accipiter (too far to ID between Copper's and Sharpshinned)
Red-tailed Hawk
Glaucous-winged Gull
Rock Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Downy Woodpecker (a pair playing tag on a snag)
Willow Flycatcher
Steller's Jay
American Crow
Tree Swallow
Violet-green Swallow
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Barn Swallow
Cliff Swallow
Black-capped Chickadee
Marsh Wren
Bewick's Wren (also a pair playing tag on a snag but each carrying a
worm for lunch)
Swainson's Thrush
American Robin
European Starling
Cedar Waxwing
Yellow Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Spotted Towhee
Song Sparrow
Black-headed Grosbeak
Red-winged Blackbird
Brown-headed Cowbird (Being chased by a Willow Flycatcher)
Purple Finch
House Finch
American Goldfinch

It was nice to get out especially because it was still sunny this
afternoon unlike this evening.
