Which Herrero also goes into detail about in his book, while pointing
out that only trained people are likely to be successful at the
task. He himself was charged by the biggest griz on record in
Alberta, and the mountie he carries for personal protection (nice
arrangement, eh?) knocked it down practically at their feet.
It sounds like perhaps Shelton's first book is more about the
practice of self-defense when one's attacked by bears, while
Herrero's book is more about the data regarding attacks,
different modes of encounters, and strategies to avoid encounters.
These books would compliment, not compete against, each other.
