Hi everyone.

I subscribed to Tweeters a few months ago as I prepared for my trip to
Washington. I just returned and want to thank you all for the helpful
information that I obtained from the e-mails. I had a wonderful and most
successful birding trip.

I spent 2 1/2 days in the Wenas area. I tried very hard for the
White-headed Woodpecker but was unsuccessful. My last day in Wenas area
was Tuesday. As I was coming down Umptanum Rd. from the campground area, I
encountered 3 people. I saw them earlier in the morning when I was going
to the campground area. I asked them what they were doing and they said
that they were preparing for the "fiber optics" system that is being put in
there. They said that work would begin in about 3 weeks. I also saw 2
other people who said that they were doing plant and wildlife surveys.
They were also connected to the project.

I know nothing about what is involved in this process. How does it affect
the environment? How much of the area will be affected? Might it have an
impact on the habitat for the White-headed Woodpecker or any of the other
birds in the area. I left the area with a very uncomfortable feeling. If
any of you have any information on this I certainly would appreciate
anything that you can provide.

Thanks again,
