Recently Steve asked about Damon Pt. road...Steve, I was told today that
the road has been repaved as of Friday 7/16. Also, shorebirds are showing
up all over the area in good numbers for their return trip.

On another note, 13 people (mostly Grays Harbor Audubon members) plus a
Quinault guide (Mike Mail) went on an eco-tourism trip today to Cape
Elizabeth and Point Grenville. These areas are normally off-limits to all
but tribal members, and very few people have been out on the Cape Elizabeth
terrain. It is quite a lot of clambering over cobbles and boulders, and has
to be done with the tide in mind, but it was a wonderful trip! There are
several very picturesque arches to walk through, as well as the interesting
geology. We saw several bald eagles hunting the Quinault River right at the
mouth. In the afternoon, we drove onto the old Coast Guard grounds at Point
Grenville and looked over to the rocks right offshore. The group was
pleased to see two oystercatchers out there. I'm sorry I can't give you
more bird info...I am a relative newcomer to birding, but I CAN tell you
this is a rare and wonderful opportunity to see a gorgeous area of this
coast. Mike is interested in how many people are out there interested in
this tour.
