On February 15, 1985 Barbara and I had lunch in the company of three
snowy owls in the dunes at the north end of Leadbetter Point on the Long
Beach Peninsula. The owls were about 100 feet from us, and in a
triangle. We only saw two and sat down to eat sandwiches and watch
them, then saw the third behind us. They were still standing on the
ground when we left 30 minutes later. That was one of the highlights of
our birding for that year.
