Hi Tweets

This weekend, Gene Revelas and I birded over in Okanogan County. Highlights
on Friday included:
Camping near Tiffany Springs Campground, Hike into Roger Lake, with Boreal
Chickadee and Three-toed Woodpecker (3). On Saturday morning, we saw Blue
Grouse on a hike up toward Freezeout Ridge, and Spruce Grouse and several
Showshoe Hares along the road west of Roger Lake. On Saturday
Afternoon we headed over toward the other side of the valley, where we
encountered Lewis' Woodpecker, Lazuli Bunting, White-throated Swifts, 3 Wild
Turkeys,
and many ducks with young, including Eared Grebes carrying their young on
their backs. On Saturday night we stayed at Gene's cabin in the hills above
Riverside, with Townsand's Solitaire, Red Crossbill, Cassin's Finch, and
singing Porwill. Sunday morning we birded the lakes along Lake Cameron Road
and Soap Lake Road, and had a nice assortment of shorebirds:
Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs,
Solitary Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper,
Long-billed Dowitcher, Common Snipe, Wilson's Phalarope, Killdeer. That's
10...in eastern Washington! In a riparian grove we heard a Veery, in a
Ponderosa Pine wooded area we had Gray Flycatcher and Pygmy Nuthatch. In
the drier areas we saw Brewer's, Vesper, Lark, and Grasshopper Sparrows (all
still singing).
