Dan Logan was correct about the need for reading glasses. I intended to
mention that in my e-mail about the LASIK surgery.

I have had bifocals for two years or so. Now I cannot read a thing now
without reading glasses. I bought a three-pack of readers at Costco and
have them scattered around the house.

A person can have the LASIK surgery done to give them monovision - one eye
sees 20/20 and the other sees about 20/50 and is used in reading. You don't
have to make a conscience switch, the brain takes care of it. You do need a
very dominate eye and a cooperative brain to make it work. My sister-in-law
operates very well with that system. Sooner or later, though, she will also
need reading glasses.

I personally think the struggle with the readers is a worthwhile price to
pay for good vision. Others might consider it too much of a chore.

Before my surgery, I could take my glasses off, close one eye and bring
something I needed to examine very close to my other eye and see it just
fine. I have lost that ability now and must resort to a magnifying glass.
I still think I have gained more than I lost.
