One doesn't have to be up and about at 03:30 to hear these songs. For
years, I have been awakened - when the window is open - by the violet-green
(mostly) and tree swallows in the neighborhood. And this is an area that
is pretty leafy! When I close the window, no swallow noise.

Last year in South Africa, with windows always slightly ajar, I was also
awakened very early by swallows of some species, long before the hadedas
began their morning flight. Perhaps it is the same all over - at least
where there are swallows.
