Regarding Swallows......

In my experience I've almost only seen swallows swooping, diving,
soaring, and generally acting like miniture feathered jet fighters.

Seeing a swallow pecking around on the brown grass, or even watching one
just *sitting* on a speed bump in the driveway seemed so weird to me.
Kinda like seeing Bald Eagles dumpster diving or something....But not as
weird as the time I saw a gull pecking at a drowning pigeon by the ferry
docks.....

I live near the Green River and the bugs must be good there, because
that's where I see the swallows most of the time. When I first moved
back to Washington I lived in Everett where Violet Green Swallows nested
in the eves of a neighboring building. They'd zoom in and out all spring
and summer.

I recall on afternoon in late July I spied, all lined up along the roof
edge were SIX fully fledged, small Violet Green Swallows sitting along
side two or three somewhat larger swallows. Gawd, I wish I had had my
camera for that one!

I guess swallows do sit still, but it's novel sight for me!
