A total of 127 species were seen at the annual Washington State Audubon
Campout held at the Wenas Creek Campground in Yakima County. A BLACK
SWIFT was seen flying over the campground by one early rising birder.
Monday morning a GREAT EGRET was found by the boat launch at Wenas Lake.
A LEAST FLYCATCHER, 6 GRAY CATBIRDS, and a first year BROAD-WINGED HAWK
were found in the riparian habitat upstream of the Hardy Canyon access to
Clemmons Mountain. The hawk was seen perched in a cottonwood tree along
the creek by eight birders, four of which are familiar with this species.
We observed it with both binoculars and a spotting scope for about ten
minutes before it flew over us heading downstream towards Hardy Canyon
where it was seen by the participants of the field trip led by Tim
Culliman.
