Tonight at 9:25 pm (6/2/99) while walking uphill on N. 90th St. between
Meridian and Corliss Avenues my husband and I saw what was definitely a
nighthawk. It flew in a loop around the neighborhood clear and close
enough to see not only its shape but its white wing patches. I don't know
if it was a male or female; I had to look them up to be reminded how they
differ. I was pretty stunned to be seeing it since I've never seen one
in Seattle--a big surprise that made my evening. Since many people have
noticed a decline in local urban areas and there was a recent Tweeters
discussion about them, I though folks might be interested. . I've seen
them many times in the past and this one was unmistakable.

the block we saw it fly over is located between Wallingford Ave. and I-5
a few blocks north of Greenlake. Has Anyone else seen one in north
Seattle lately?
