Hi, fellow tweetsters. I'm forwarding this announcement from the
pnw-native plant list in hopes some will find it of interest. I know no
more than is listed below. Since I'm not now receiving tweeters via
email, any replies will have to be direct to me. The area mentioned is on
the south side of the Willamette River between Newberg and Butteville,
Oregon, as stated in the directions at the end of the notice. --Anna

Champoeg Bluebird Festival

On Saturday, June 19, 1999, from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Champoeg State Heritage=
=20
Area will hold the first Champoeg Bluebird Festival to celebrate the park=
=92s=20
signature birds. In 1998, seven pairs of bluebirds nested in the park,=20
successfully fledging forty-seven young from eleven clutches. Most of these=
=20
birds are very easy to see as the majority of nest boxes are placed along=
=20
roads and bike paths.

The festival will offer bluebird video/slide shows and field trips to see=
=20
nesting bluebirds. A nest box building workshop will be offered along with=
=20
bird-related activities for children. =20

Champoeg will be unveiling a new permanent exhibit on the western bluebird=
=20
during the festival. The exhibit will be located in the Visitors=92 Center=
=2E =20
The Prescott Bluebird Recovery Project will have a table near the exhibit=
=20
where volunteers will hand out information about the program and answer=20
questions. Bluebird nest boxes will be sold, as well as specialty items=20
featuring the western bluebird. =20

Participants will have an opportunity to =93adopt a box=94 at Champoeg for =
a $25=20
contribution to the Prescott Bluebird Recovery Project. Maps locating=20
individual nest boxes in the park will be available at the festival. =20
Information about the birds that used the =93adopted=94 nest box during 199=
9 will=20
be sent to contributors at the end of the breeding season.

Champoeg State Heritage Area is located along Champoeg Road on the South si=
de=20
of the Willamette River between Newberg and Butteville. You can reach=20
Champoeg Road by going 6 miles south of Newberg on Highway 219 and by=20
following Butteville Road for 6 miles west of the Charbonneau District Exit=
=20
(Exit 282B) off I-5 just south of Wilsonville. You will need to buy a $3.0=
0=20
parking pass at the machines in front of the Visitors=92 Center.
