Columbia Estuary Report - 06/06/1999

Steve Warner reports that BROWN PELICANS arrived at the north
coast of Oregon early this week though there were none to be seen on
Sunday during Seawatch. Two BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES were roosting
on the big rock at Ecola Point Sunday. The COMMON MURRE colony looks
to be healthy this year (for a change.)

At least three HERMIT WARBLERS were singing from the big trees north
of the Ecola State Park parking lot. This is the first time I've had
them there.

A recently fledged RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD was following its mother
and two recently fledged SONG SPARROWS were seen on Saturday's point
counts at the Neawanna Wetland.

There were no shorbirds on the beach between Gearhart Approach and
Sunset Access on Saturday. 2 dead BRANDT'S CORMORANTS, a dead
FORK-TAILED STORM-PETREL and a dead HARBOR SEAL were on the beach.
