Subject: barn swallows nests

Greetings from a neophyte birder,
It appears that a pair of barn swallows is building a nest on a light
under an eave at my house. I assume that other people have had these
birds construct a nest at their house. Is there anything I should be
aware of in this situation? What do they eat? Is there anything I can do
to help the birds? Also, is there anything I should avoid doing? No cats
can reach the spot easily.
Any thoughts would be splendid.
Thanks
