I just got back from a WA St. Audubon Leadership conference at the Sleeping
Lady Conference Center at Leavenworth. It is on the Icicle R. about two miles
up Icicle Road from hwy 2. An excellent place for a conference. One morning
we went on a birding trip to Blackman's Is. It is just across the Wenatchee
R. from downtown Leavenworth. It is a good place to bird in the morning
before too many people get on the trails. Anyone going to or thru Leavenworth
should take 1-2 hours to check it out.

We had 27 species in about an hour including- Veery, Swainson's Thrush,
Black-headed Grosbeak, Western Tanager, Bullock's Oriole, Western Wood-Pewee,
Say's Phoebe, Osprey Cedar Waxwing, Wood Duck, Vaux's Swift.

Also, seen at the conference center grounds were White-headed Woodpecker and
Calliope Hummingbird.

There is a nature trail at the fish hatchery on Icicle R. which is good also.
It is about 1/2 mile downstream from the conference center.
