I have been told, but have no independent corroboration, that
Monsanto has developed Roundup resistent varriants of Rape Seed,
the plant from which Canola oil is produced.

They sell the farmer the seed and roundup. The farmer plants the
seed, then sprays the crop with roundup to kill all the weeds.

The farmer harvests the crop and must sell ALL of the crop back
to Monsanto (they do not want anyone doing their own seed
propagation).

Apparently, it is a fairly lucrative setup for the farmers
(when compared to other crops).
