Dear Tweeters,

I'd like to mea culpa for sounding so dogmatic about roundup yesterday and I
certainly appreciated Teresa Michelson's reasoned and informative post on the
subject.
I shouldn't have implied I have any knowledge about chemistry or land
management. My expertise, if I can call it that, is in aesthetics, and I tend
to believe that the vast majority of roundup buyers are using it to serve an
aesthetic agenda far different from Michelson's, (or for that matter other
tweeters'). In my opinion there's almost no commonality between using
roundup to aid native plants and biodiversity and using roundup to achieve a
"perfect" lawn or a driveway with no plants showing through the concrete.
It may seem trivial for me to state I have a primarily aesthetic objection to
using Roundup for lawns but there is an aesthetic package in our culture that
is killing biodiversity. It doesn't allow for leaf litter, dead wood in a
tree, much less snags, and everything is supposed to be mowed. And the
Roundup is in the garage.
