Columbia Estuary Report - 06/13/1999

The BREWER'S SPARROW that was seen Wednesday at the Astoria Mitigation
Bank was not relocated.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was in Warrenton at the wetland near the mouth of the
Skipanon Sunday morning.

The hwy 101 OSPREYS have re-appeared at the traditional nest site after
a 3 or 4 week absence.

The density of birds in the area has dropped to the expected level of
summer breeders. Fledglings are beginning to appear, including SONG SPARROW,
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD and the first VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. I've also noted
the first young GREAT BLUE HERONS of the season.
