Rat bait has Warfarin in it, an anticoagulant (blood thinner). It causes
the animal to bleed to death. Any other animal eating the rat or the bait
would have a similar fate. Check with an exterminator for the best use of
baits for vermin. Be sure and let them know your concerns. I had rats and
mice in my crawl space under the house. That was a big concern for me
because I have feeders in the yard. But the bait stations took care of the
vermin and not the birds.
