Subject: Juvenile flicker?

Had a quick peak at an unusual-looking bird on my suet feeder this morning.
It was the size and shape and acted like a flicker but it was mostly black
with just a few markings - a little white/black line where the mustache
should be and a "suggestion" of red on the edge of the wing. It had a black
eye and black woodpecker-type bill. None of my books show a juvenile
flicker. I checked Jerry & Sandy Converse's web site but those were
just-hatched flickers. Can anyone help?
