Subject: Song Sparrows singing at night

The species I hear singing at night most frequently (away from human
illumination) are white-crowned sparrows and pacific slope flycatchers.
One of the Indian tribes along the outer Washington coast actually called
the w-c sparrow by a name that ment "birds that sings in the middle of the
night". Do you suppose that indiviulal song sparrow on bainbridge has
elevated male hormone levels, or is under the influence of the mercury
vapors?
