Warfarin and Coumadin are one and the same. But you can imagine that the
dosage the rats gets is very high (for their body size) and the dose humans
get is just enough to keep the clotting time long enough to prevent blood
clots and strokes. It's used for many reasons, even preoperatively for
patients having certain types of joint replacement surgery to prevent
postoperative clots.

Years ago when I lived over in Kennewick we had a dog brought in for lab
work. The dog was bleeding everywhere. Turns out he had gotten into rat
bait (how I can't remember). But the dog ended up getting a blood
transfusion and survived the ordeal. But it was touch and go for a while.
