This is a one-time-only report. I will not be available to transcribe
the RBA for the remainder of June. We hope to resume regular

RARE BIRD ALERT for:

LITTLE GULL
FORSTER'S TERN

Sightings for Thursday, June 17, 1999

A LITTLE GULL (first-year) and a FORSTER'S TERN were seen on the Iona
Island (Richmond) North Jetty near the large dirt mound. A FRANKLIN'S
GULL was also seen nearby.

Sightings for Wednesday, June 16, 1999

A first-year LITTLE GULL was seen in the SW sewage pond of the Iona
Island sewage ponds. It later flew to the "outer pond", and then to
the Iona Island beach, where it joined BONAPARTE'S GULLS.
An adult FRANKLIN'S GULL was also seen along the Iona Island south
jetty.

Three WILSON'S PHALAROPES were in the southwest sewage pond at Iona I.

A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE immature was reported from the Swartz Bay to
Tsawwassen (Victoria-Vancouver) ferry.

Two PURPLE MARTINS were seen near the nest boxes at Blackie Spit,
Surrey.

The CASSIN'S AUKLET present for several weeks was seen again near the
SeaBus terminal on the Vancouver waterfront.

One, possibly two WESTERN KINGBIRDS were seen at Maplewood Mudflats,
North Vancouver.

A GREEN HERON flew across the Middle Arm of the Fraser River near the
Dinsmore Channel bridge, Richmond.


Sightings for June 15, 1999

An EASTERN KINGBIRD flew across the Middle Arm of the Fraser River
near the intersection of Agar and Inglis Roads on Sea Island,
Richmond.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was still singing on McDonald Road, Sea
Island, south of McDonald Beach Park.

A female LAPLAND LONGSPUR in alternate plumage was seen in Pitt
Meadows along the South Alouette River dyke near Neaves Road, Pitt
Meadows (north side of river). EASTERN KINGBIRDS were numerous along
dykes in the area, especially along the 216th Street dyke. Three or
four GRAY CATBIRDS were along the latter dyke.

One EASTERN KINGBIRD was seen near the NW sewage pond on Iona I., and
a SORA was near the NW corner of the SE sewage pond.
Three WILSON'S PHALAROPES were in the sewage ponds, and a REDHEAD was
seen on the island.


Sightings for June 14, 1999

An apparent immature GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at Blackie Spit, Surrey,
on the pilings at the mouth of "Farm Slough".

Three WILSON'S PHALAROPES and a PEREGRINE FALCON were at Iona Island.

Twenty WHIMBREL and a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE were seen at Blackie Spit,
Surrey
