Speaking of woodpeckers . . . on SportsCenter (the ESPN station that gives
comments on all sorts of sports happenings) yesterday there was a segment
on Pinehurst where the U.S. Open is being held this year. There was about
a two-minute clip on the red-cockaded woodpecker, which nests at Pinehurst,
and about the efforts to make the area surrounding the golf course more
habitable for these endangered woodpeckers. They said that there were two
successful nestings this year and showed adults feeding young, etc. Nice
clip.
