Hi Jim
If you or anyone else knows of a nesting nighthawk in either Oregon or Washington, please let me know. I don't know of any recent records. I am particularly interested in any "urban" rooftops.

thanks,
Howard Ferguson

There was a common nighthawk calling from somewhere above our apartment
complex in Redmond this evening. There are a lot of flat-roofed buildings
around
here, so I thought there was a decent chance we'd get them, but I didn't
know
what kind of roofing they look for and whether it's readily available here.

This leads me to a question. I have had it in my head since I was a kid
that
killdeers also nest on flat-roofed buildings, but I can't recall reading
this or
seeing direct evidence of it. Can anyone confirm/deny? If they do, is it
known
whether they compete directly with nighthawks?
