The following quote is from Mike Mailway's column in today's Seattle P-I:
"Historical footnotes indicate it was a sin in ancient Rome to eat a
woodpecker."

That takes me back to childhood days when, instead of chicken for Sunday
dinner, we'd dine on three or four Ivory-billeds. But I've lost the old
family recipe and don't kill the ones I see any more, those noisy devils.
