A few weeks ago, I asked my fellow tweeters for help in finding my main
target bird, the American Bittern, which I have been hunting for since I
started birding. I got lots of information and I am proud to announce that I
have seen my Bittern at Nisqually this morning at about 11am, two good
sightings. I did my "dance of joy" that I do to celebrate lifebirds and
amused some non-birding hikers. Hallelujah! I am as happy as a hog in slop!
Also, in the rarity department, my niece saw a white-headed woodpecker on a
tree in the media strip on I-5 just north of the Nisqually exit. Don't know
what a mountain bird is doing in the big city but it was definitely a
woodpecker with a white head, red patch on the back and a dark body, bigger
than and definitely not a hairy or downy woodpecker.
Thanks again, all you tweeters who helped me find my bittern, Yahooooo!
