You've heard it said countless times; birds don't read books. So why
wouldn't a Rose-breasted Grosbeak turn up in western Washington. A
number of Mainland U.S. birds turned up at Midway Atoll. Among them was
a Snow Bunting. And a Common Redpoll at Kure Atoll another 45 miles east
of Midway. About l,300 miles from the westernmost islands of the
Aleutian Chain to the north and about 3,300 miles from the Mainland
U.S.to the east. Marbled Godwits at Pearl and Hermes Reef about 90 miles
east of Midway. This is but a few records. There is a first for
everything. Keep an open mind.
