Tweeters,

Painting my house this morning, I perked up to the song of a Red-eyed
Vireo in the neighbor's yard. I spotted it near the top of a fir but
it didn't stick around for long. Three Cowbirds replaced it. I have
been listening to Black-headed Grosbeaks and Western Tanagers almost
daily but the Vireo was a rare treat.

I am tallying the results of the first Great Thurston County Goose
Count. We are already up to 1,095 geese with results still coming
in. The count will be repeated in August (I may try to persuade
everyone to wait until early September to give the molt migrants
a chance to return). Anyone care to speculate when they think the
peak would be for resident Western Canada Geese in an urban environment.
March? September?
