This falls into the unsuccessful category of open space, but it's an
interesting historical footnote. Some time ago, I read in the newspaper
that earlier in the century (pre WWII?) there was a proposal that Mercer
Island be made into a park. The proposal was rejected (so the story said)
because it was felt that Mercer Island was too remote, and that not enough
people would use it.
