Maybe you're right Cliff. The "pretty wide at or just behind the head and
tapering quickly to the base of the tail" seems a little off for sole or
flounder though. They are actually widest at mid-body and taper gradually
in both directions. They do turn 90 degrees and travel along the vertical
surfaces of concrete walls though, so that fits.
