Wayne et al.,

With regard to Wayne's 1991 Alder report. Phil Mattocks and I went dashing
up there the next day and found a singing Empid at the exact spot of Wayne's
observation which sounded distinctly different from the other Willows in the
vicinity. I got excellent recordings of it as well as of various local
Willow Flycatchers and was convinced it was the Alder. I decided to invest
then in SoundEdit Pro for my Mac so I could produce the sonograms I needed
to "prove it," but after exhaustive analysis decided that it was a song in
many ways intermediate between Willow and Alder. I still suspect it was a
hybrid. If not, it supports my contention that Willow songs can vary. If I
can figure out how to transfer the sonogram from my old Mac to my Windows95
laptop, I would be happy to send the file to anyone who might be able to
"read" it.
