Yesterday we took a short (30.6 miles) drive (well that is
short for us.)

We started on hwy 174 and drove north to Crown point and then
took the Pendall road which turns into School road and ends at
the intersection with Smith Lake road. From there we drove one
mile on 31 Rex and then one mile on C 25 Rex, turned around
and headed home via Smith Lake road and hwy. 174. Most of this
trip is on DeLorme Page 101, D,7-8

We saw 47 species of birds and 3 White tail Bucks with HUGE
racks.

Bad news first. :-( There is a dead hawk (couldn't tell the
species) hanging upside down from a nest and one white egg
visible in the nest. Couldn't tell if it was shot or got
tangled up in the orange baling twine so often incorporated in
the nests.

Okey--now for some better news. We saw one SAGE THRASHER. We
were hoping to see several sparrows and did see, GRASSHOPPER,
(and heard), VESPER, LARK, SONG, and the ever present HOUSE
SPARROW.

There were several YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS in the riparian
areas. We also saw one LAZULI BUNTING, and a MARSH WREN in a
small cattail patch.

In one small lake we saw, REDHEAD, RUDDY DUCK, GREATER SCAUP,
RING-NECKED DUCK, HOODED MERGANSER, BLUE-WINGED TEAL,
PIED-BILLED GREBE, and RING-BILLED GULL.

That's it.
