Mike,
Not intentionally correcting you but I noticed you used the genus Eutamias
for chipmunk, quite a few years ago the genus was changed to Tamias, so
its Tamias townsendii,thought you might like to know of the change if you
didn't already.
On the notion that this species might have been overlooked it is very
possible, many times I have mistaken several birds,
that turned out to be various members to the Sciuridae family. The most
notably is many times squirrels have sounded like various Woodpeckers and
visa-versa.
