SE Arizona's prime birding sites are in the high mountains, well above
the sweltering desert.

Tucson's a nice starting point but the real birding is beyond that, to
areas that even in the deep of summer, surprisingly, the daytime temps
are comfortable (mostly 80's) and the nighttime temps make sleeping very
nice. That's good news because it's in August when birding is at it's
best (Spring is second; winter's so-so). Speaking of nighttime, this is
the ABA's NUMBER ONE spot for owling and seeing other night birds
(nightjars).

The chief "big" cities are Bisbee, Sierra Vista (canyon country,
including world-famous Ramsey) and Wilcox. All are fine places to live,
Sierra Vista being the most charming. Among the small cities, I really
like Sonoita and Patagonia.

That's a start.
