In respone to the sighting of a immature male hooded merganzer.....
During the winter I ofter wondered why I saw so many female Hooded merg.
Then one has the white stripe where the males have the shite on the
hood. Checking many books, I found that the immature male had a
reddish top knot/crest likel the female, and the white feathers come in
before the bleack ones that outlike the hood.
