Oregon's Breeding Bird Atlas project is offering reimbursement of gas, and
in some cases
reimbursement for rental of a 4WD vehicle or watercraft, if this June/July
you'll spend at least a couple of days (excluding travel) looking for birds
in any of the following areas and their habitats in Oregon
(/V means 4WD rental and gas is reimbursable,
/G means gas only is reimbursable,
numbers are identification numbers for hexagonal areas that are about 17
miles wide and
include the named features and habitats).

** To be eligible, you must (1) be able to identify most Northwest birds by
sound and sight, (2) must be able to read road maps well, and (3) apply by
April 1 by returning a signed application form, which I can email you before
then (if you're already helping the atlas project, you'll find the form in
the packet you received last week). Indicate primary and secondary
choice(s) for areas. Birders who are willing to foot all or part of the gas
or vehicle rental expenses to cover an area will be given preference, other
factors being about equal. You will be notified by May 1 of our funding
decision.
This may be the last year these reimbursements are offered, so if you ever
wanted to explore some of these neat places in Oregon, please take advantage
of this
offer now.
