Columbia Estuary Report - 03/07/1999

The Columbia Estuary Report is now Y2K compliant.

I drove Clatsop Beach from Sunset Access to Gearhart Approach today.
I have no idea what kind of clean up, if any, occurred yesterday, but
there were no tarballs or other signs of oil over the whole stretch.
I found a dead NORTHERN FULMAR, 2 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS and a CASSIN'S
AUKLET... not particularly out of the ordinary. An adult PEREGRINE
was snacking on a SANDERLING between Del Rey access and Gearhart
Approach.

Yesterday, the Lower Columbia Birders went out to Brownsmead. All
got good looks at the GYRFALCON, which was unusually cooperative.
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK flew by as we scanned for ducks at the Twilight
Eagle Sanctuary. TREE SWALLOWS were seen in several places in the
area and at least 2 VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS were at the Ziak Refuge.

RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS are now easily found at neighborhood feeders
in Astoria. The female Rufous reported earlier this week at
Cannon Beach was still there on Sunday morning.

Mike Patterson I don't swear for the hell of it.
Astoria, OR Language is a poor enough means of communication
mpatters at orednet.org and we've got to use all the words we've got....
Besides, there are damn few words anybody understands
