Taking advantage of that . . . that strange orange disc in the sky, I
persuaded my Mom to take to me Kent Ponds in search of a Virginia Rail or
Sora. Using a homemade tape, I went to the swamp and tried and tried and
tried to get a rail of some sort to show itself, but only got a few replies.
Anyone know where I can get an ACTUAL tape to attract rails? Plenty of MARSH
WRENS and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS. Anyway, railing failed, and so did owling.
The barn owl decided to keep put -- somewhere -- for the day. I'm almost
positive I saw a Cooper's Hawk, but couldn't make a positive ID.
So, with no lifers, we headed home. On the way I noticed many CANADA GEESE,
and thought what the heck, why not look for a Ross' Goose, just in case?
Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a white goose. I yelled for my
mom to stop and turn around, I was so excited. She turned around and pulled
over. Sure enough, it was a ROSS' GOOSE! A lifer for me, but I was wondering
if it is supposed to be here? Is it "uncountable" for some reason? Please
help so I can count it.

Thanks and Good Birding,

Tyler
