Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This

Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

A LEAST TERN and an adult gray phased GYRFALCON were at the Fernhill
Wetlands in Forest Grove the evening of March 10.

The GYRFALCON at Brownsmead continues to be seen as is the EASTERN PHOEBE
in the Coquille Valley. The BLUE JAY is still near the Environmental
Center in Bend.

BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES are being reported all along the coast, including
some oiled in the spill. At least 100 were at Cape Arago near Coos Bay
March 3.

TREE and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS are now regular over most of western
Oregon. Large swarms of RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS are now along the coast to
Newport. They are now being seen throughout western Oregon. ALLEN'S
HUMMINGBIRDS are now common along the coast north to New River, south of
Bandon.

On March 7 two ROCK SANDPIPERS were with other shorebirds on the North
Jetty of the Siuslaw River, and a flock of GRAY JAYS were in Washburn
State Park north of Florence. The EMPEROR GOOSE continues to be seen
along Fenk Road west of Tillamook. On March 6 a GOSHAWK was at the
Twilight Eagle Sanctuary east of Astoria.

At least 200 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE are now in Scappoose Bottoms. On March 6
an EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was in the Bottoms. Good numbers of
SANDHILL CRANES are now conspicuous on Sauvie Island. A GLAUCOUS GULL is
still at the Pellet Plant on the Island, and another is at Clackamette
Park in Oregon City.

SAY'S PHOEBES were reported during the week from Northeast Portland,
Portland Airport, and Powell Butte Park in Gresham. Three were in the
Sandy River Delta near Troutdale March 7, and two were at Timberlake,
southeast of Estacada March 9. Another was in the E.E. Wilson Wildlife
Area March 9.

A FRANKLIN'S GULL was among a flock of Mew Gulls along Knightsbridge Road
west of canby March 4.

The LONG-BILLED CURLEW continues to be seen along 7 Mile Road west of
Lebanon. The SNOW BUNTING in that area was last reported March 5. Two
SANDHILL CRANES were in that area March 6.

On March 9 up to 400 TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were just west of Powell Butte
in Central Oregon. A flock of 15 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was in Bend March 7.

The burn along Burgess Road west of LaPine continues to attract
woodpeckers. On March 6 about 20 HAIRY and 15 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS
were seen working the trees in that area.

Thats it for this week.
