Eleven birders went on the monthly ELWAS field trip to Tukwila & Kent Ponds on
a beautiful, sunny, calm day.

Pied-billed Grebe
Double-crested Cormorant
Ruddy Duck - 8
Canada Goose - 13
Gadwall - 2
Northern Shoveler - 5
Bufflehead - 4
Common Merganser - 10
American Coot - 1
American Crow - 6
Black-capped Chickadee - 4
Dark-eyed Junco - 4
Spotted Towhee - 1

3/11/1999 ~ in Kent Ponds ~ 34 seen
Pied-billed Grebe - 1
Double-crested Cormorant - 2
Ruddy Duck - 8
Ross's Goose - This was seen with 2-300 Canadas SW of the corner of S. 196th
St.
and the West Valley Hwy in Kent.
Canada Goose - 7
American Wigeon - 100+
Gadwall - 8
Green-winged Teal - 14 + 1 dead GWTE found under the power line on south side
of
the ponds. Last month we found a dead Common Snipe under the power lines.
Makes you wonder how many others are killed there during the rest of the
month.

Northern Pintail - 12
Bufflehead - 34
Hooded Merganser - 2
Common Merganser - 2
Great Blue Heron - 4
Bald Eagle - 1 immature at ponds + 2 at Newport Hills P&R before we left on
trip.
Northern Harrier - 1 female + 1 male in same area as Ross' Goose
Cooper's Hawk - 1
Red-tailed Hawk - 5 + 2 along hwy I-405
American Coot - 100+
Killdeer - 2
Glaucous-winged Gull -1
Belted Kingfisher - 1
American Crow - 20
American Robin - 5
European Starling - 100+
Marsh Wren - 3
Bewick's Wren - 1
Winter Wren - 1 singing beautifully at P&R before we left.
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 1
House Sparrow - 2
House Finch - 2
Song Sparrow - 6
Savannah Sparrow - 5
Western Meadowlark - 1 perched at top of 30-40 ft. snag

We did not see any swallows or the Barn Owl at Andersen Park.
