Reaching the bottom part of my driveway coming home from work I saw two
Western Bluebirds checking out a couple of the nest boxes. YEAH!!!!!! These
are my first bluebirds of the year...boy, am I glad I finally got around to
cleaning out the nest boxes and putting up my latest baffle design (I have
no idea if it will work but with the appearance a few months ago of a pair
of raccoons the birds need all the protection they can get.). I guess I
didn't expect them because it's really cold at night...18 deg at 5:30 this
morning, but going up to the upper 40s midday. I'm so excited about the
bluebirds; each year when I see them for the first time my heart lifts like
a kid. After the long long BROWN winter we've had in the Spokane area, I
can almost believe spring is really here. Wish I could play hookey from
work tomorrow and just sit around and watch the bluebirds. Oh well.....
