After a day's postponement due to weather, Westport Seabirds trip went
offshore to the shelf edge on 14 March. Conditions were good for a winter
trip
- 10 foot swells and seas of Beaufort 3 to 4. No fishing vessels were noted
and a chum just short of 125 W attracted birds.

Highlights: 60 Black-footed Albatrosses, 3 Laysan Albatrosses, 20 (only)
fulmars, 17 Sooty Shearwaters, 2 Short-tailed Shearwaters, 1 Fork-tail, 1
Pomarine Jaeger, 198 Black-legged Kittwakes (offshore), 1080 Common Murres,
1
Ancient Murrelet, 218 Cassin's Auklets, 1 Parakeet Auklet, 20 Rhinoceros
Auklets, 2 Pacific White-sided Dolphins, 5 Northern Fur Seals.

Highlights of the Highlights were the Laysan Albatrosses and Parakeet
Auklet,
the latter of interest in that dead birds have turned up recently on
post-New
Carissa beaches. No tar balls or dead birds noted. Next trip, 24 April,
will
hopefully see as little bad stuff but rather good birds instead.
